Each of our products is milled-to-order just once a month, ensuring freshness and a robust flavor profile that surpasses conventional grocery store options. Our flours retain higher nutritional value, thanks to our time-honored milling techniques.
We exclusively source grains from regional family farms, upholding sustainable practices that support our local agricultural community. Nestled within the historic walls of Woodson’s Mill in Lowesville, VA, our mill is uniquely water-powered, grounding our mission in environmental stewardship. At Deep Roots Milling, we don’t just make flour – we make flour with purpose, blending tradition, quality, and sustainability in every bag.
The Mill
Deep Roots Milling operates out of historic Woodson’s Mill in Nelson County VA. Woodson’s Mill was originally built in the 1790’s and has been in continual operation throughout the majority of its history. For much of America’s history, mills like Woodson’s dotted the landscape and served vital community roles. However, with the commercialization of the modern food system, these country mills could not compete and most were abandoned and left to fall apart. Woodson’s Mill is one of the last of these gems and we are excited to give it new life.
We produce high quality flours that help foster a strong, healthy equitable food system comprised of a diverse network of small growers. 100% of the grain that we use is responsibly sourced from family farms in our region.
